There are a lot of commercial roofing contractors in Fayetteville, NC – so how can you know you’re hiring the right contractor for your roofing work? After all, there are too many “fly by night” companies out there, or contractors who are so new to the industry that they can’t really be trusted.
Finding genuinely qualified commercial roofing contractors can be tricky, but it mostly involves asking the right questions. Here are a few you should focus on.
Five Questions You MUST Ask Before Hiring Commercial Roofing Contractors
- Are you fully licensed, bonded, and insured?
Never hire a roofing contractor without looking at their bona fides. They should be fully licensed to work in your city/county and be insured with a large bond held against any accidents or damage. The insurance is particularly important because if they don’t have insurance, YOU could be held responsible for injuries.
If you have any doubt about whether their certifications are legit, follow up with their insurance company or your city hall.
- What professional memberships do you hold?
There are numerous professional trade organizations for construction contractors, as well as other groups such as local business affiliations. Any decent contractor will be a member in one or more of these groups. Which ones isn’t that important, but if they aren’t a member of any professional groups, that’s a huge red flag.
- What warranty coverage do you provide?
Having roofing work done is expensive, and you need protection on your investment. At the bare minimum, they should fully support manufacturers’ warranties on their supplies and materials. Hopefully, they also offer support and warranty guarantees on their own work, as well. The more protection they can offer you, the better.
- Do you subcontract any work?
It’s not uncommon for commercial roofing contractors to utilize subcontractors, but if they do, you should know about it up-front. You need to be able to investigate the subcontractors they use. Of course, it’s usually better if they do all the work themselves.
- How do you vet and train your workers?
Finally, inquire into their hiring practices. Do they do background checks? Drug tests? What training and testing protocols do they follow? The more thorough their hiring practices are, the better.
